The better hotels have been piling on the pillows, with bigger and comfier beds than ever, as they compete for customers. The Starwood Hotels kicked off this trend in 1998, when they launched their Heavenly Bed promotions.
Now it takes 10 minutes for room service to make the bed. With Sacramento’s 8 unionized hotels facing labor negotiations in a few months, union leaders say they’ll focus on the fancy bedding. They want more housekeeping staff on the job … or lower requirements for how many rooms a maid must finish during her shift.
