Execution Date Set For San Joaquin County Murderer

Forty-six year old Michael Angelo Morales of Stockton is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at San Quentin State Prison in just over a month.

A judge in Ventura County set the date at the request of the District Attorney's office in San Joaquin County according to Nathan Barankin, spokesman for the state attorney general's office.

"While Morales will certainly file legal appeals with the state and federal courts seeking to reverse or overturn his sentence as of right now the schedule is for his execution is scheduled to be carried out on February 21st."

Barankin says Morales is the next death-row inmate scheduled for execution in California.

Morales was sentenced to death following his conviction in 1981 of the murder and sexual assault of a Lodi-area teenager.
