The county’s Interim Emergency Operations Coordinator – Rick Martinez – says extending the proclomation may help bring federal assistance.

"The governor did request the president declare the Declaration of Emergency here, that has not occurred and it may or may not occur. There are many reasons that we did the damage assessment but one of the reasons is to validate the need for a federal declaration."

According to preliminary estimates, the county spent nearly $5 million responding to the floods which caused about $3.5 million in damage to county residents.
