Housing starts in California during 2005 were the same as the robust numbers of 2004. That’s the good news. But builders began construction on 18% fewer homes in November than a year earlier. A worrisome ending to the year.
The Construction Industry Research Board, which issues these reports, notes that many builders took out more building permits than usual to beat an October 1st deadline. New requirements on energy efficiency took effect statewide on that day.
Still, the California Building Industry Association wonders if affordability is such a problem now, that demand … and new home production … will decrease.
