Wal-Mart’s proposed supercenters are often in Sacramento’s headlines. What’s not well known is the growth of their online sales.

The latest round with Wal Mart came last week, when the retail giant withdrew plans for a site in Elk Grove. Opposition often centers around low wages, killing other local businesses and employment, and poor benefits.
But Wal-Mart runs into none of that with its online offerings … and the company has quietly become the 3rd largest online retailer in America, behind only eBay and Amazon. Their growth rate is less … because they’re only online. Retailers with actual stores as well – such as Wal-Mart, or Target for another example – are enjoying far faster overall growth
