According to new US Census Bureau figures, 6% of Placer County residents live under the poverty line – the lowest in California.

Ed Graves – the county’s economic development director – credits job growth in a variety of employment sectors.

"We’re supporting industries from the medical device side of the table to the hi-tech industries and the software companies that a lot of people hear about but we’re also after basic industries on the homebuilding side which has really paid off well for this area for quite some number of years now."

The Census Bureau data shows that El Dorado County has a 7.5%poverty rate while Sacramento has a rate of nearly 14%.
