The Port of Oakland’s commissioners are poised to approve a ten-year plan to manage the Port of Sacramento.

Part of its local agenda will be to recruit more cargo operators and eventually dredge the local inland ship channel; to accommodate cargo-laden barges connecting the two ports. And next month, the newly constituted Port of Sacramento commission, weighted for the first time in favor of its host city of West Sacramento, is expected to approve the Port of Oakland’s management plan.

Up to now, the local port has suffered from competition from the port of Stockton, its own gridlocked governance and critical neighbors.
