The changes are designed to improve flood control. Jeff McCracken of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation says they’re looking at things such as enlarging the dam’s river outlets.
"That’s one of the concepts is to look at how we can physically alter Folsom Reservoir to get more water into the channel at a lower level so that’s something that we’re going to be taking a look at."
Federal, state and local officials will hold three so-called “public scoping meetings” to get comment. The first one is today at the Granite Bay Activity Center from 4 to 6 PM. Construction could begin in 2008.
