Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger told reporters that his choice of Democrat and former Gray Davis adviser Susan Kennedy as his Chief of Staff did not represent a shift in his philosophy… But political Analyst Tony Quinn says the change creates a problem of perception.
“What you get out of this is a sense that the Governor doesn’t really have any core philosophy, it’s sort of situational ethics…”
But Quinn says that problem may be short-term. Republican consultant Kevin Spillane says the true view of whether the Governor is shifting gears will be seen in his policy decisions in the coming months.
“Staff is important, but ultimately it’s the Governor who makes the decisions and we’re going to have to see what the decisions are that he makes. The Tookie Williams is the first one I’d be looking at in the days to come.”
Schwarzenegger has scheduled an unusual in-person hearing with lawyers in the case for clemency for death row inmate Stanley “Tookie” Williams, who is scheduled for execution December 13th.
The governor will outline his major agenda next month in his State of the State address and in his proposed budget.
