The money will go toward building a new faciltiy in North Sacramento. But food bank executive director Peter Berghuis says it’s $350,000 short of what they need.
"I’m very happy however we will need to pursue some strategic plan to come up with the amount of money we were looking for which was $750,000. It’s not going to hold up the development of our plans to build in North Sacramento but it probably would hold up the groundbreaking should we not find more funding in the future."
Right now, the food bank is using a double-wide trailer at the corner of Norwood and Haze to distribute groceries in North Sacramento.
The federal funding approved Fridayis part of a $66 billion Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development package.
The legislation also includes $500,000 for the Sacramento Tower Bridge widening project.
