Stockton Metropolitan Airport
Stockton Airport officials say AeroMexico Airlines is planning regularly scheduled round-trip service between the Central Valley and Guadalajara, Mexico.
Airport Director, Barry Rondinella says the Mexico-based carrier has signed a letter-of-agreement to provide a few flights a week to and from Stockton.
He anticipates the flights will be popular among the region's large Latino population.
"We expect that AeroMexico could put all the service that they're planning on and there would still be much greater demand than seats available on the market."
Rondinella says the goal is to begin the service next summer.
Mark Martinez, the C-E-O of the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says the flights will lead to many destinations.
"You'll be able to connect from anywheres, even to South America and Europe from Guadalajara."
Talks with federal customs officials about preparing the airport for international flights are expected to begin in the near future.
Currently there aren't any commercial airlines serving Stockton.
