After two years and $34 Million worth of rennovation work, the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Downtown Sacramento will reopen this Sunday.
Rennovation of the cathedral at 11th and K Streets included new oak flooring, restored artworks, seismic strengthening and the restoration of the original dome.
Cathedral Pastor Father James Murphy says local Catholics are looking forward to this Sunday. "It’s an historic milestone for the diocese."
Murphy says over the course of the cathedral’s 116 year history, many interior changes were made.
"What that resulted in was that it tended to be a piecemeal scheme on the inside that lacked stylistic unity. What we’ve done is gone back to the original style which is Victorian interpretation of French Renaissance."
Rededication masses on Sunday are sold out. But space is still available for two Monday masses.
