Grant Teacher’s Association President John Ennis says teachers have been working without a contract since June of 2004.

"Our members are fed up. Two-thirds of them are ready to go on strike right now. When it hits 80% we will absolutely shut down this district if it’s necessary."

The union is asking for more benefits and cost of living wage increases. But officials with the Grant Joint Union High School District say they can’t afford it.

Teachers union members plan to picket next Wednesday’s school board meeting.
