As he so often does, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger opened a news conference joking.  This time about his post-election meeting with the four legislative leaders…

“Let me just say we had a big Five meeting…. No casualties.”

Democratic Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez acknowledged after their meeting that the Governor’s tone was conciliatory.  However, in his news conference, Schwarzenegger did not apologize, as some of his opponents have demanded, following the special election that resulted in defeat of his four initiatives. But did say he heard a message from voters.

“Which was the people want us to take care of the job right here in this building, and not to go to them if things don’t work out. Instead of three times or four times, try ten times or twenty times.”

Schwarzenegger says he’ll have to be more patient, and that if he decides to go to the ballot again it will be with lawmakers as partners.
