UC Davis entomologist Thomas Scott, an expert on the control of viral diseases transmitted by insects, is a key player in an international research consortium.
"I think it’s fantastic. This is just a wonderful, unprecedented opportunity to make some really meaningful changes in terms of public health and it’s directed towards people in developing countries who suffer the most from these diseases."
Scott will manage field sites in Peru for testing mosquito-control techniques and products designed to prevent the spread of dengue fever.
The project is directed by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in England.
