Bay-Area based retail developer Jim Kessler has purchased Florin Mall. He says plans are underway to change the nearly 40 year old building into an open-air shopping center.

"We’re going to de-mall the mall, which will entail removing the existing JC Penny, The Weinstocks department store building and the enclosed mall and rebuilding a center. It is open air with major tenants."

He says the anchor stores will be Wal-Mart and the existing Sears store. Kessler bought the property from local developer Buzz Oates for an undisclosed price.

The re-named Florin Towne Center is expected to open by Christmas of 2007.
