Early-voting polling places opened in Davis and West Sacramento. Yolo County’s registrar Freddie Oakley says they tried it out last year to help busy UC Davis students.

"If they have classes on a Tuesday and can’t get to their neighborhood polling place, that was a barrier to voting for them so we thought ‘well, let’s give them a week of early voting on campus’ and it about doubled our participation of voters in student precincts."

Oakley has expanded early-voting polling places beyond the original UC Davis site. Registered voters from all parts of Yolo County can vote at three sites through this Friday. They include the West Sacramento Civic Center, the Davis Senior Center and the UC Davis Memorial Union.
