The House of Representatives on Thursday voted in the recommendations of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission, and the President okayed it in September.
So on November 8, Beale Air Force Base by Marysville will officially have its new mission.
About 10% of the base’s 2,000 military and civilian staff will be lost as the air tanker refueling mission shifts to other bases over the next few years. However, base employment stands to grow by up to 1,000 as it concentrates on high-altitude surveillance and reconnaissance, which incorporates U2 and Global Hawk aircraft.
In the 1990s, the BRAC commission closed three bases in Sacramento, but all have bounced back with private development.
