Siemens Transportation in South Sacramento has landed a contract to build 26 light-rail cars for Edmonton, Alberta. This comes on the heels of two other big contracts, totaling 41 cars, they’re building for Denver and Calgary.
The company has Ottawa and Vancouver, Canada in its sights as well for new jobs, in part because of the more favorable posture of the Canadian dollar these days compared with ours.
Siemens is expanding their plant, and will add another 25 workers to their current staff of 350. As for Sacramento … a spokesman says the light-rail system already has enough cars for the next 10 years.
