Regional Transit officials say for the first time in their history, buses and light rail trains carried more than 3 Million passengers in a single month.

RT spokesman Mike Wiley says it’s not too hard to figure out why. "Well we think that gas prices spiked so high during the month of September that people finally got fed up with driving their cars as much and looked for an alternative and transit is a very logical and very easy to use alternative."

September’s ridership numbers went up 6% over the same time last year. Most of the increase was in light rail ridership which jumped from 47,000 average daily riders in September of 2004 to 58,000 last month.
