\UC Davis will use the money to establish a new center for research … looking at cellular treatments for childhood diseases. One focus will be on how stem cells can be grown in sufficient quantities for clinical use. Others will be the best methods to assess the safety of potential treatments, and how best to track these cells in the body.

Investigators from throughout the U.S. and Canada will collaborate on projects within the new research center. Earlier this year, Sacramento lost out to the Bay Area in the final round of selecting a California headquarters for stem cell research, linked to initiative funding.
