Sacred Heart Parish School says the upcoming $150 million construction project will be too disruptive to students. Also, they say that Mercy’s offer of three and a half million dollars to reorient school buildings and for temporary classrooms isn’t enough.

Parish officials abruptly ended discussions recently. Sister Sheila Browne, on behalf of Catholic Healthcare West, which includes the Mercy hospitals, says their nonprofit system can’t afford to divert further money.

The school has suggested more than $8 million would be needed to offset impacts of the project. Both Sacred Heart and Mercy General have been neighbors for more than 60 years.
