The Census Bureau reported before Labor Day that household incomes have now been stagnant for five years but heavy equipment operators aren’t in that bind.

The Operating Engineers Local Union #3 has negotiated an $8 an hour hike spread over four years. Their Northern California union members, working at development sites and on highway projects, will be earning $55 an hour in cash and benefits by the end of this decade.

The labor agreement affects 3,500 members in Greater Sacramento … and was ratified this month, a year ahead of schedule.
