The piano quartet by Ernest Chausson was written a hundred and eight years ago. It’s often described as “luminous,” and it’s the epitome of its era, when music and painting and poetry were French passions.

Pianist Thomas Hrynkiw is one of the guest artists this weekend. The other is cellist Gilberto Munguia, who founded a well known music festival in Mexico.

This year, the Chamber Music Society is offering what sports fans call a causeway classic. They’ll perform Saturday at Congregation Bet Haverim in Davis, and Sunday on the other side of the Yolo Causeway, in the Music Recital Hall at Sacramento State. Both concerts are at 7:30.
