Telemarketers using recorded, autodialed messages may not want to try them out on cell-phone companies.

Local Verizon employees got telemarketing pitches earlier this year, and Verizon responded with lawsuits. They were the first such suits filed by a wireless carrier.

One, filed in Sacramento, was against a San Diego firm. Another filed in New Jersey, named a Florida telemarketer. Pitches made locally even included calls to Verizon’s demonstration cellphones.

Verizon alleges it received 1.4 Million illegal telemarketing calls from the two companies, and seeks the penalty of five hundred dollars per call.
