The site, known as Lot A, has been targeted by the city of Sacramento for development for nearly 20 years. Now, developer David Taylor is on the cusp of building an office tower at the 601 Capitol Mall site.
Key to the project’s green light is the signing of a big anchor tenant, Downey Brand, the largest law firm in Sacramento. Downey Brand will lease 85 thousand square feet on five floors for more than ten years, a lease believed to be worth about $35 Million dollars.
The firm, which is currently next door to the site, will have options to take more room and stay longer. The highrise is expected to cost $110 Million dollars to build.
