The proposed projects are on the Highway 99 corridor just north of Sacramento International Airport. One group of landowners has just presented Sutter County’s Board of Supervisors with their concept, calling for more than 17,000 homes and perhaps a new regional mall. However, Sutter County officials are known to want more commercial development there, to create jobs.

At the same time, other developers are now asking the city of Sacramento to annex 3,700 nearby acres within Sacramento County. They want to build homes too.

Combined, these proposals would urbanize a six-mile stretch of rural land along Highway 99. Formal discussions lie ahead.
