MBK Homes, owned by Mitsui & Co., has decided to become a player in the Sacramento region … with enough land in escrow to construct 600 homes. Their U.S. headquarters is in Irvine. Locally they’ll operate from Granite Bay.

MBK sold only 300 home in the U.S. last year … but Sacramento’s investment could change that. The president of the Northern California division, John Tattersall, hopes to begin construction in a year, for customers buying at the lower end of the price range.

Their strategy is to use less land per home … an increasingly common trend among area builders, with the median price of a home now at $460,000.
