Tahoe Regional Planning Agency spokeswoman Julie Regan says the annual event is the best way to keep attention on the lake because it’s competing with other places for coveted federal funds.

“There are other wonderful places in America – the Chesapeake Bay, the Everglades, the Great Lakes – that all need to have environmental restoration work done so we just want to keep the spotlight on Lake Tahoe and this kind of high level summit continues to keep that emphasis moving in the right direction.”

US Senator Dianne Feinstein will host this year's summit. Topics include water quality, wildfire danger and future planning efforts.
