In a few important ways, MaxPreps is an Internet equivalent of ESPN … but all its sports news is at the high school level only. President Andy Beal wants to have results online for every high school game in the nation.
The three-year old company says it already has as many as a million users a month – half of them teens. That draws advertisers, such as Reebok, and college coaches. It’s also just drawn more than $2 million in fresh investment from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, a leading venture capital firm.
Next month MaxPreps will debut a national highlights show … and next year, the company hopes to show a profit.
