The digital camera revolution is taking its toll on the traditional photographic film industry. Kodak’s film developing subsidiary, Qualex Incorporated, is being cut dramatically as part of Kodak’s mission to control its losses, by axing 23,000 jobs by 2007.
The Qualex lab in Sacramento, one of 43 Kodak is shutting down across the country, will idle its 93 staffers and managers. The Qualex lab develops film for local stores of Raley’s, Costco, Save-on, Walgreens and Rite-Aid.
Once the Qualex lab closes, its local film processing will go to its Portland lab, one of 11 Qualex outlets to remain open.
