The 40,000 square foot facility has room for 90 beds. County Supervisor Helen Thompson says the old detention center only had enough room for a dozen beds. "We have grown quite a great deal in Yolo. As our population grows, the young people coming into this facility also grows sadly and we really needed to upgrade our facility."
The $12.5 Million facility was paid for with money from state and federal grants and local development impact fees.
The new building is on East Gibson Road, next to the county sheriff’s office.
