Union officials say the agreement provides major improvements in patient care protections. "We're really happy," said Kathy Dennis, a registered nurse at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento and one of the union's contract negotiators. "It's something we can really recommend that our members vote for."
Dennis says the agreement will make CHW wages comparable to other local hospitals. "As always, Kasier is the lead in wages and they’re always the top of the mark, but it does bring us up with the community."
The tentative contract also includes nurse-to-patient ratios and gains in pensions and retiree health benefits.
If ratified by union members, it’ll affect nurses at the various Mercy Hospitals in the Sacramento area as well as Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton.
