Akros Silicon will make chipsets for wireless Internet access, phone service via the Internet, and other fast-growing segments of high-speed networking. Three veterans of Level One, a company purchased by Intel several years ago, are driving the new venture.

Akros hopes to have a staff of 18 by year’s end at their new offices in Folsom. Potential customers would include the likes of Dell, Toshiba and Cisco Systems. The venture investors were drawn by the experience of the founders, and a fundamental innovation they came up with to gain a competitive edge.
