Pets usually panic when they hear all the noise from fireworks.

Chris Andis with the county’s Animal Care and Regulation Department says frightened cats and dogs will run away to escape the noise. "Every year after the 4th of July we do see an increase in strays being brought in from off the streets - people calling that they’ve lost their pets and we do find animals that are injured on the roadways."

Andis suggests keeping pets indoors with the curtains and windows closed, even during daytime hours, and turning on the radio to district outside noises.
