It’s called the West End project and it covers a two block section of downtown between 7th, 8th, N and P Streets. State Department of General Services spokesman Matt Bender says if built, it will be a mixed-use project. "We’re planning an office complex that’ll include 1.4 million square feet of office space, parking structures, also opportunities for ground level retail."
And neighborhood activists like Kay Knepprath hope it also includes space for housing. She says planners have an opportunity to avoid another large office complex that sits empty at the end of the work day. "Mostly everybody leaves about 5 o’clock and that leaves this dead space with the neighborhood next to it. It is bleak."
Wednesday night's public workshop will be in the Bonderson Building at 901 P Street from 5 to 8 o’clock. The project is scheduled to be built in 2010.
