State Attorney General Bill Lockyer says Californians don’t need another Democratic candidate for Governor—so he’s running for state treasurer.  He says he doesn’t want to spend the next ten years doing what he calls the “partisan, hand-to-hand combat” and the "all-consuming chase for money, endorsements and exposure" that it takes for the top job.

“The partisanship, the constant squabbling seems to have amplified dramatically in the last couple of decades.”

Lockyer joins a long list of those who have expressed interest in running for State Treasurer—However, Lockyer’s announcement prompted another from a potential candidate. Democratic state Senator Joe Dunn has decided to drop out of the race, saying he and Lockyer have worked too hard on issues to be adversaries at this time in their careers.
