State Senator McClintock Begins Campaign for Lt. Governor

Tom McClintock may be familiar to many Californians because of his unsuccessful run for Governor in the recall election two years ago.  Now he's decided he wants the state's number two job, currently held by Democrat Cruz Bustamante.

The election is next year and McClintock is the first Republican candidate to toss his hat into the ring. McClintock says he sees the Lieutenant Governor’s job as a platform for political reform.  At least three Democrats say they will run. They are state Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi and state Senators Jackie Speier and Liz Figueroa.

McClintock made headlines when he ignored calls by fellow Republicans to drop out of the recall election and leave the field open for Arnold Schwarzenegger.   McClintock and Schwarzenegger ultimately put their differences aside last year when the governor campaigned for McClintock's re-election to the state Senate
