The union representing custodians, groundskeepers, cafeteria employees and other service workers made the announcement Wednesday, nearly a week after workers staged a one day strike.

“The strike tipped us over the edge and sent the message to the university that we were serious.” Union spokeswoman Faith Raider says the 3-year tentative contract includes significant wage increases that include guaranteed raises. “This will go for a vote of the workers at all the campuses in the next few weeks and if they vote it up we’ll have a new contract.”

A new contract will affect over 1,000 service workers at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and the UC Davis campus.
