The State’s Chief Information Officer, Clark Kelso, says for more than a decade, suggestions have been made to consolidate the state’s two data centers in which just about every government agency deposits information.  Kelso says the plan put forward will create a new Department of Technology Services to include the data centers as well as telecommunications systems.

“More importantly in this case is simply putting together three organizations that at this point aren’t very well coordinated and putting them together to coordinate their activities.”

Kelso says the consolidation would serve as the starting point to improve ways to deliver government services online to the public.

The Little Hoover Commission that reviews government changes and efficiency will hold a hearing at the end of the month and forward its recommendations for the legislature’s actions.
