South Sacramento will soon be the site of $7 million dollar complex called Soccer Planet. The Herrera family, which owns La Pantera Club night club, is behind it, with support through a U.S. Small Business Administration loan.
The long-abandoned, ten-acre site across from the Campell Soup plant will have two Olympic-sized outdoor soccer fields with artificial turf. Indoors, in a large facility, there will be two soccer fields with bleachers and a mini-practice field … as well as a café and other amenities. The Franklin Boulevard area is well situated to attract players from the Hispanic community. The County supervisors gave the project their blessing in late March.
