The Lewis Operating Corporation plans 2,500 homes for this site … in what they’re calling the first top-to-bottom example of smart growth.
The project calls for five villages … each centered around its own public park. The community’s retail and commons area would be a quarter mile or less from any of the homes. Forty percent of the land would be open space … with 13 miles of bike paths. A number of planning nuances would encourage walking and children’s outdoor play.
Since the design was worked up with Lincoln officials, who frowned upon an earlier, standard suburban development, the city is expected to give an official okay.
