RT’s Finance and Administration Committee today will look at a plan to raise fares from the current $1.50 to $2.00.

Spokesman Mike Wiley says they need to boost revenues. "It’s been fairly minimal fare increases over the past 15 years. The last fare increase was about five or six years ago and we went about 12 years prior to that without having a fare increase. So from a fare standpoint there’s a little bit of catch up that we’re having to do."

Under the proposal, monthly passes would also go up from $60.00 to $80.00. RT will hold public meetings in May. If the transit board approves the plan later this summer, the higher fares would go into effect at the start of next year.
