Last month, FEMA removed about 54,000 Sacramento properties from high-risk flood zones. The move was prompted by the restoration of American River levees.
But the agency’s insurance administrator David Maurstad recommends homeowners keep some sort of flood policy. "We don’t want to lead people to think that there are absolutely no risk to flood, that flood can still happen, that flood is not covered by their normal homeowner’s insurance policy."
Maurstad strongly recommends homeowners convert their existing policies to low-cost Preferred Risk Policies. The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency is holding a series of flood insurance community meetings. The next one is set for next Monday night at Rio Americano High School.
