A strike could happen next month once the state-mandated mediation process ends.
But UC spokesman Noel van Nyhuis says they’re still hopeful they can reach some kind of an agreement with the worker’s union. "We definitely don’t want our service workers to strike. Essentially it leads to hurt feelings on all sides including the workers that take part in the strike. However, if it does come to a strike then the university will prepare itself accordingly."
Contract talks are stalled over wages. A strike would affect food workers, custodians, groundskeepers and drivers at both the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and the Davis campus.
