Officials with the union representing the service workers say 92% of their members who voted at UC campuses across the state are in favor of a strike.
Sacramento-based union organizer Cody Potter says after a three-year wage freeze, workers are angry. "UC Davis employees both at the Medical Center and the campus are really fed up at this point after not having increases since 2002. They’re ready to take action and to take our campaign to the next level."
A strike could happen next month after a state-mandated mediation process. University of California officials say they’re trying to offer salary increases but it all depends on whether they can get state funding.
