59-year-old Bob Heidelbach retired from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department in 1999 after serving for over thirty years, the last three in a high-ranking administrative position. Heidelbach was selected for the top post from among four finalists. Supervisor Leroy Onellas nominated Heidelbach. Heidelbach will serve the remaining two years of the term of former Sheriff, Baxter Dunn, who resigned recently after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.
