Environmentalists Lose Battle to Stop Home Development in Sunrise-Douglas
A state appeals court has ruled against environmentalists and South Sacramento residents who tried to block development of the Sunrise-Douglas area in Rancho Cordova.

AKT Development and others have proposed building up to 22,500 homes in the Sunrise Douglas area. Vineyard Area Citizens for Responsible Growth and other opponents challenged Sacramento County's June 2002 approval of the development plans. The opponents alleged violations of the California Environmental Quality Act, known by the acronym CEQA. The property later became part of the city of Rancho Cordova. A Sacramento County Superior Court judge denied the citizen group's petition to overturn the county's approval. The Third Appellate District Court of Appeal of the State of California agreed with the lower court
