Lawyers involved in the legislature’s investigation of California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley’s use of federal election funds will now have more time—at least a few weeks to review evidence and prepare for Shelley’s testimony. Shelley had been scheduled to appear before the Joint Legislative Audit Committee this week…. But it was only last week that legislative leaders announced they’d agreed on ground rules for the committee hearings. The agreement allowed both Republicans and Democrats to retain lawyers and included provisions to share documents and give equal access to witnesses by both parties. Democrats announced they hired an attorney for the proceedings late last week, Republicans announced they’d hired their attorney earlier this week. SOC
