State Treasurer Phil Angelides (ANJ-uh-LEE-duhs) spoke at a Sacramento-area elementary school to say Democrats will rally Californians to protest the Governor’s decision that cuts out more than two-billion dollars in anticipated public school funding under Proposition 98. Cut: Phil1 (:06) “The people are going to speak out. This Governor’s budget must, can and will be defeated.” Doctor Barbara O’Connor heads the Institute for the Study of Politics and the Media at Sacramento State University. She says getting out their budget message early could benefit Democrats particularly in an expected special election this year. Cut: Barb1 (:10) “The whole discussion of competing moral visions which I think you’re seeing evolve, will be a good one. We haven’t seen that kind of discussion in a long time.” Both Senate and Assembly Democrats have announced their intentions to start budget hearings early—and hold them in cities around the state to discuss the Governor’s proposals.
